Introduction
Post AGIP-9, the AGLD community has 15.5M AGLD tokens available to support the Adventure Layer Ecosystem. To better support the Adventure Layer ecosystem in an impactful, sustainable, and community-driven way, AGIP-10 is introduced as a vesting/unlocking schedule proposal to establish a rate limiter of newly minted AGLDs (referred to as “community holdings” in this proposal) being utilized/released for the foreseeable future.
Under the rules established by AGIP-9, most spendings would be subject to governance approval (the sole exception being small grants, which have additional rulesets). The vesting schedule proposed below, if passed, would not determine the actual rate of community holdings reaching circulation. It simply indicates the maximum possible rate of release, which shall not be exceeded. In other words, at a certain point in time, only the vested/unlocked amount would be reasonable to be released, subject to governance approval, to support the development of the Adventure Layer ecosystem.
Goals & Objectives
- Community-driven decision-making ensuring transparency
Unlike most VC coins, where vesting schedule is discussed behind closed doors, the Adventure Gold & Adventure Layer community has a direct decision over the vesting schedule on the community holdings.
- Ensure ample support & initial boost on the ecosystem, set a leading example for an ecosystem built by a fair launch project
Adventure Gold, when regarded as a project, has come a long way. We are the first airdrop/fair-launch token of an NFT collection. We are the first community owned L3 (Loot Chain). We are the first 100% community-owned project to explore the cutting edge of onchain dapps. It would be a huge pity, like most fair launch projects, if we stopped right before everything took off. The vesting schedule proposed below aims to enable most of the community holdings to be available following a clear and concise schedule so that Adventure Layer can remain competitive among other crypto gaming chains in this and future market cycles.
- Avoid over complications, which can lead to governance fatigue.
We have learnt lessons from ourselves about governance inefficiencies in 2021. Having a crucial proposal every week would have been a nightmare for the community. It’s important that we set aside the important rules and only make changes to them when necessary.
Rule of thumb
- Same vesting & unlocking schedule for all 4 categories of newly minted AGLD to avoid over complication & maintain community governance participation.
- Community decision ultimately rules on spendings, via onchain governance on Tally
- Vesting schedule is like a flow-limiter: spending from community holdings should not exceed the limit of already unlocked tokens at the time the proposal’s submission.
- Vesting schedule should adhere to the launch & development timeline for the Adventure Layer ecosystem.
Vesting schedule detail
- First unlock on 1st Apr 2025: 20% of each category
- Retroactive Funding: 800k (cliff)
- Treasury: 800k (cliff)
- Ecosystem Grants: 800k (cliff)
- User Incentives: 700k (cliff)
- Followed by monthly linear unlocks: 10% on 1st day of each month
- 1st May 2025 10%, 1st Jun 2025 10%, 1st Jul 2025 10%… 1st Dec 2025 10%
- The last unlock happens in 1st Dec 2025
- Retroactive Funding: 400k (monthly linear)
- Treasury: 400k (monthly linear)
- Ecosystem Grants: 400k (monthly linear)
- User Incentives: 350k (monthly linear)
Unlocked funds each month do not mean they will head into circulation. For each event where some AGLD will reach circulation, we will update Coinmarketcap & Coingecko in a timely manner. Funds only reach circulation via
- Ecosystem Grants
- Small grants committee (<5000 AGLD per grant)
- The committee shall produce monthly reports on updates of past spendings
- The committee shall produce a report upon giving out a small grant.
- Grant recipients should produce monthly updates on their progress
- Small grants committee (<5000 AGLD per grant)
- Formal Governance proposals
- Retroactive funding to compensate for community builders & core contributors
- Requires monthly disclosure report
- Treasury
- Never reach circulation directly
- Only funnels to the other 3 categories
- Ecosystem Grants
- Large Grants will reach circulation when approved
- requires formal governance proposal & approval
- Grant recipients should produce monthly reports
- User Incentives
- As the name suggests, the allocated AGLD will reward users directly, hence will reach circulation when approved.
- Requires formal governance proposal & approval
- The Project Team whose users receive the user incentives shall produce monthly reports on the usage & impact of the user incentives.
- Retroactive funding to compensate for community builders & core contributors
Closing
Through the AGIP-10 proposal, we hereby propose that the community holding be implemented with a vesting schedule from Apr, which is the time when Adventure Layer mainnet will be live. Vesting will be completed by the end of 2025, which gives the Adventure Layer Ecosystem enough warchest to compete with other well-funded gaming ecosystems. The vesting schedule is not indicative of the change in circulating supply of $AGLD at all. Each major circulation change would always be subject to formal onchain governance approval from the community.
